In recent years most chandlers have turned to soy as their preferred wax of choice when creating and crafting candles/wax melts. Even in big box stores, 95% of the candles on the shelves are soy! Why might you ask? I am going to go over the benefits of using soy compared to other options, how it a better option for the environment, how it is a better option for you and your families health, and why us chandlers prefer to use it!
Lets compare.
When it comes to wax there are typically 4 main types
1. Soy
2. Paraffin
3. Palm
4. Bees
Paraffin is made from petroleum and coal. Palm wax is made from the leaves of a palm. Beeswax is made from honeybees. Soy wax is processed from soybean oil.
Some benefits of using soy wax candles are that they are environmentally friendly and made with renewable resources. Soy wax also burns slower and more evenly than paraffin wax, so your candles will last longer. Soy wax candles create less soot and burn cleaner overall.
Soy wax candles create a safer product for you and your family! With little to no soot and way less smoke, even those who are sensitive to smells and smoke will not be affected negatively by burning a soy candle. The air will be cleaner for the entire family. Being that there is less smoke, you also eliminate the risk of staining your walls or furniture making soy wax candles a perfect, clean option for your home.
As a chandler I prefer to use soy wax because of the reasons stated above but also because it is easy to work with! Soy wax is fairly easy to add scent/color to. Soy wax allows me to expand my creative pallet while staying environmentally friendly. If a spill occurs it is also very easy to clean up, soap and hot water will clean up any soy wax mess (which happens quite a bit!)
With all of the benefits listed above, soy wax candles are the obvious choice. There are so many benefits, and most importantly being that it is safe for you and your family when decided to add a product to your home!
